The Ministry of Energy and Water issued the following statement: “On the eve of the Cabinet session, electrical activist Yahya Mouloud appeared on the Laboratory tests issued at loading ports related to representative samples taken from the cargo of the aforementioned marine tankers. Mouloud considered that this clause might facilitate fraud and give suppliers a greater margin of escaping responsibility. Then, Subha reported news similar to what Mouloud stated and hinting at the presence of fraudulent fuel. Therefore, it is important for us to emphasize that: 1- Resorting to submitting such a request to the Council of Ministers is not new and was previously approved. 2- This oil will not be used unless the test results are issued by accredited international laboratories and conform to the specifications. 3- The purpose of this step is to save time by saving the discharge period so that it can be completed in the time wasted waiting for the results to be issued. 4- The unloaded materials are stored in empty warehouses. If they are non-compliant, they will not affect compatible materials present in Lebanon. 5- Return shipping costs if the materials are not identical and the financial guarantees are the ones in force in the approved books of conditions, and the step presented to the Council of Ministers does not require reconsideration or any additional financial burdens. 6- The work is sustainable to ensure that no adulterated fuel is brought into the country, and the required procedures and measures have been taken for this. Therefore, I wish Mouloud, who has a long history and a proven record in the field of energy and oil, would clarify the matter before creating this confusion and providing media material for those who are biased, as the difficult situation that the country and the sector are going through does not tolerate such populist behavior.”
